Synopsis/Review

Taking place in a time long past, an old man in Baranasi has two daughters named Khanittha and Khantthi. Khanittha is far more beautiful than her younger sister. Whenever they go anywhere together, men only show interest in Khanittha, causing Khanitthi to much loathe and envy her own older sister. Wealthy young Bhatika has fallen very much in love with her. When he asks Khanittha to be his wife, Khanitthi doesn't allow it and begs her father to have Khanitthi herself become Bhatika's wife as well.

Although the wealthy man is well-off, he is quite stingy. He still has to work for his money and, so eager to please Khanittha, he shows nearly no interest in Khanitthi at all and her jealousy brews greater with every passing day until the two give birth at just about the same time. Bhatika gives Khanittha's child the name Ueai and Khanitthi's child the name Ai. As time passes, Khanittha sees even more clearly the disparity in their treatment, and she goes to see a Shaman to charm Bhatika. The shaman's followers Chaem and Chom tell her that Bhatika keeps his inheritance of gold hidden away and she greedily agrees to Khanitthi's proposal. To prevent her charm from fading, Bhatika must not imbibe alcohol.

After that, Bhatika is very much changed, becoming an abusive man who Khanittha must protect the children against. When the children are grown and the staff have fled the house, leaving the work to Ueai and Ai. Ueai, fortunately, has friends Ji, Ueng and Klin to help and always retaliate on her behalf.
