Joy's mother is a talented Morlum (Thai country) singer while her father is a talented flute player. They make beautiful music together, and pass their talent onto their oldest daughter, Joy. However, their music talents cannot pay the bills and the family of four (Joy has a younger sister as well) cannot pay their creditors. To make matters worse, Joy's father is slowly losing his eye sight. Seeing her family suffering in so much poverty, Joy's mother makes the decision to join a Morlum music performance and production group. She does this after running into an old friend who helps her connect with the group's manager. Joy's mother hopes to make enough money to send back to her family. However, her plans are spoiled when the group's manager not only notices her talent, but also her beauty. In his greed and lust, he rapes Joy's mother to both keep her with him as his woman and as his prized money-making singer.
Years pass, Joy has grown up and graduated from school. Her father has gone completely blind, and her younger sister is around the same age as Joy was when their mother left. Joy's mother has become a famous Morlum singer under a new name. Ashamed to return to her family after what the manager has done to her, she remains with the group and develops her career. All the while, she is under the impression that her family is receiving money from her. In actuality, the family has not, and are shocked when they do receive news of her. Hopeful that she is still alive and that she is working with the Morlum performance group, the family sets out to find her in the city. After meeting several obstacles along the way, Joy finally finds a job as a waitress at a bar.
Paul's family owns a music recording company. One of the cilents they are working with is actually Joy's mother. However, the relationship is growing rather hostile, due to the greedy manager. So, Paul's company is looking for new talent. Paul and his older brother find that new talent in Joy, while she is performing at the bar. As Joy becomes more famous, her path crosses with her mother, but neither one ever knows who the other is. While developing her career, Paul and Joy grow close as Joy finds herself in competition with her mother for top Morlum singer. Will all be revealed? And will Joy's broken family become whole again?
